Among all other avenues of professional photography, wedding photography is the toughest and the most boring for photographers in Kolkata. There is the rituals, ceremony and the solemn affairs bit in Indian Weddings. Then there is the headache of handling the relatives and chaos. Now the question is why wedding photography & filming the wedding ceremony is a boring affair?
As an experienced wedding photographer in Kolkata from my percipience, I can say that the boredom comes when you have a fixed format in mind and every wedding you are expecting to be fitted into that format. The ceremonial rituals are mostly scripted for all the communities and religions in India. The real weddings take place between the long-handed parts.
In today’s article, I will share my views on making the wedding photography an interesting affair for you as a wedding photographer in Kolkata.
1. Instead of filming or capturing the scripted movements, focus more into candid moments: Nothing but the storytelling approach can make your wedding photographs unique & interesting. So focus on the bride’s facial expression during the bridal shower or groom’s movement during the Haldi ceremony.
2. Never miss any happening into the wedding, shoot a lot & cut the best frame during the wedding: Never commit that you will deliver all the images taken during the events. So you will be able to film and capturing moments after moments and even the transitions between the moments and just photograph it. For us, each frame is an amelioration over the previous. We shoot through the moment and deliver the peak of the moment. We will cull out 600 photos from the 20,00 in 6-10 minutes. To do this a photographer has to be emotionally precluded. Because during the wedding he/she and the team are fully entailed. And then we will cut 1000 images from 4000. That is really very time-consuming process.
3. Instead of insisting your bride for fake candids, capture some honest moments: Nowadays, capturing fake candid photographs of the bride during the makeup is in trend for the last five years in wedding photography in Kolkata. Stay away from such practice. Shoot when the makeup is half done or capture the moments when the bride is getting prepared. This small practice will be making differences.
Hope, this article based on my previous experiences and observations will help the aspiring photographers in Kolkata who are keen to shoot the various community weddings in Kolkata and across India.
